A 1982 study found that one child out of two in five million people, played a musical instrument. During this time Maurice Fleuret a French composer and music journalist dreamed a way to bring people out on the streets. Later in Paris 1982, he organized Fête de la Musique also known as Make Music Day or World Music Day.
Ever since, the festival has become an international phenomenon, celebrated on the same day in more than 700 cities in 120 countries. The motto of the day has been to promote music in two days – First encourage amateur and professional musicians to perform on streets. The later bit is to organize many free concerts, making all genres of music accessible to the public.
Music in India began as an integral part of socio-religious life. Today the land holds varieties of music from classical to folk to film music. The day didn’t go unnoticed, according to Hindu, Alliance Française de Delhi and Hauz Khas Village Traders’ Association roped in over 20 venues in Hauz Khas Village to celebrate the day on June 21.
Besides most of them (celebrities and music channels) joined social media to spread the good words about music.
