In a bid to boost its Facebook community and promote its association with the Blackmores Sydney Running festival, Wipro Technologies has launched an online marathon for its fans with exciting prizes to be won.

As a major sponsor of the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival held on 16th Sep, 2012, the IT giant Wipro is giving its fans a chance to be a part of it through an online marathon. A fan has to just follow two easy steps, and collect the maximum number of miles in the Wipro Online Marathon contest and stand a chance to win an Apple iPad, Microsoft XBOX 360s and other exciting prizes.

The marathon is a breeze through. You do not have to run miles but collect miles instead. You have to ‘like’ the Wipro Facebook page to be able to participate in the marathon. Access the app and invite friends. For every friend you invite, you earn a mile and 10 more miles for each invited friend who likes the page.

Click on ‘Go to app’ to get started with it. There are options to watch the contest video and invite friends. Displayed below is the leaderboard with the top 10 scorers and the miles collected by them. Besides which, you can see your race status with a breakup of the miles earned.

Right at the bottom of the app, you have the contest details and Terms & Conditions of the contest.

How cool is the marathon app?

Although the online marathon sounds exciting, the visual appeal does not keep pace with the excitement. The app is neat and has a clean design with every feature taken care of. I liked that it has been well planned but it could have been categorised better. All aspects of the contest have been packed inside the app which you have to scroll till the bottom to see everything. This could have been easily avoided through the use of tabs within the app.

Besides, the promotional video for the contest has been displayed in a really small size. Fans have to watch the video on YouTube to know what’s in there!

However, the online marathon certainly helps Wipro on Facebook. Being a ‘like’ campaign, this contest will give a boost to its  existing 10K+ fan base but the best part is inviting your employees too. This is the first time I’ve come across a brand with a Facebook contest where employees are eligible to participate too.
