Mumbai-based Smursh eCommerce (part of Smursh Media) has raised an undisclosed amount from VentureNursery, an angel-backed startup accelerator for its social shopping discovery and curation platform Klip.in. The startup that was part of VentureNursery’s second accelerator batch that graduated in April this year, has planned to use the funds to build technical resources for the product and also to grow its user base.
The Mumbai based startup was set up in 2011 and is the brain child of college mates Harsh Gadia and Maneesh Madambath.
Klip acknowledges that shopping is not at all about buying and promises to enhance your entire online experience. In other words, the social discovery and curation platoform is providing a social layer over your online shopping experience. So it is not a social commerce product entirely but is working in the said direction, a thought shared while we had reviewed the product last year.
Talking to TechCircle, Co-Founder Harsh shared that, “With 1,000-plus e-commerce sites on the web and millions of products being sold online, product discovery is a huge challenge that needs to be addressed,” while talking about the need for product discovery. It was also revealed as of now Klip has curated over 5,000 products from 100-plus sites and has around 1,000 members.
Besides this both the founders are also running a digital media agency known as Smursh Media for the last five years. And for Mumbai-based VentureNursery this becomes a second investment after it had funded InterviewMaster, another startup of the same accelerator batch.
It would be interesting to watch the progress of Klip here onwards as it promises to not only grow user base but also plans to make it a much more interesting platform.
