From businesses to individual users Facebook is becoming the one point destinations for everyone. Connecting, reaching out and creating awareness has been the major reasons for Indian businesses to do so. Being India’s largest social network this is predictable. However when you witness UK Border Agency which is a part of the Home Office opening a Facebook account then you don’t get surprised but consider it as a smart move.
The Facebook page which has got strength of close to three hundred fans has been initiated for the following reasons:
1. Additional way for Indian customers to contact the UK Border Agency.
2. The page will be also a source of information about visa changes, changes in UK immigration policy, etc.
Being new entrants the community has started to live upto the expectations. The content that is being shared is helpful and the community manager of the page is making an effort to start a dialogue which can be seen in one of the discussion threads:
Apart from this the page also has listed three simple apps House Rules, Top 10 tips and Contact. The interesting one out of the three is the House Rules. Very clear guidelines are listed for fans and this needs to be done considering the sensitivity of the organization.
It is a great move as people have lot of small issues and calling up customer care is a pain. UK Border agency has given one more way to get in touch with them and get things sorted. Apart from the initiative one more thing that caught my eyes is the way the department has listed guidelines or house rules and how they plan to manage the fan page. For e.g. they have said that the initiative is a trial, how often they would reply and in what scenarios can a fan be barred from the community. Social Media rules and guidelines should be listed and especially when it is related to organizations such as the UK Border Agency.
So next time if you have any UK visa related questions, then will you be excited enough to post on the fan page or will you pick up the phone and dial a number?
