Sourav Ganguly, former captain of Indian national cricket team celebrates his 42nd birthday today. Fondly referred to as ‘Dada’, also meaning big brother in Bengali, Ganguly has seen both the highs and lows of cricketing success and fame. The Padma Shri awardee has captained the team to success as well as been axed from captain-ship but then returned to the game in spectacular form.

Loved and adored for his contribution to Indian cricket and having secured a place for the Indian team on the world cricket map, Saurav Ganguly is regarded as one of India’s most successful captains. Taking over the captain-ship at a time when the game was mired in match-fixing scandals, Sourav steered the Indian team to newer heights of hope and jubilation.

Surprisingly, his former IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders are too busy in celebrating their 500K followers on Twitter. While the Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise dropped him in IPL 2011, the Twitter handle also chose not to wish him on his birthday. KKR did send birthday wishes to current captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni yesterday.
