Pune-based online trip planner TripHobo (formerly JoGuru) has secured an undisclosed amount of Series A funding from Kalaari Capital, the Bangalore based VC firm

Pune-based online trip planner TripHobo (formerly JoGuru) has secured an undisclosed amount of Series A funding from Kalaari Capital. The funds would be used to invest in improvements to the platform, scaling the number of itineraries and content for destinations exponentially.

TripHobo is the world’s largest platform for creating itineraries and sharing trips with friends. Currently TripHobo is home to over 25000 user created itineraries and curated content for close to 200 top tourist cities worldwide. The company has been ranked as the most innovative startup in Asia by online technology news site Tech in Asia. It has also been invited as an entrant to the prestigious Travel Innovation Summit in Los Angeles this November.

“The travel industry is ripe for the next era of innovation and TripHobo is perfectly placed to capitalize on this. The platform is intelligent and the team understands travelers leveraging online services to plan and book their travel. We believe TripHobo can be the next big global brand from India and are truly excited to partner with them,” says Vani Kola, Managing Director of Kalaari Capital.

The Bangalore based VC firm that invests in early stage technology startups in India has Snapdeal, Myntra, UrbanLadder, Attero, Via, Magzter, Simplilearn in its portfolio.

TripHobo was founded in 2012 by three marketing MBAs - Praveen Kumar from IIM Lucknow, Karthik Ramachandra, from IIM Indore and Saket Newaskar from MDI, Gurgaon. In the same year, they raised seed funding from a Private investor.

Back in September 2013, Lighthouse Insights (LI) had reviewed Triphobo (when it was JoGuru) and found the travel planning portal quite impressive for the discerning traveller’s needs. The itinerary planning was a blessing to plan easily and make the most of your trip. The portal has been working on making it more intelligent to provide a complete experience for the travel junkie. In an interview with LI in the same year, CEO, Praveen Kumar had shared the company’s differentiating factors from other itinerary planning websites. The main focus was on solving a user’s key pain points.

The funding will only help further its cause. Talking about today’s young travelers who demand a smarter way to plan their holidays, Praveen says, They don’t have the patience to sift through the highly fragmented travel information available. TripHobo is changing the way users approach this by providing an intuitive, graphical and fun platform where the user actually enjoy the process of trip planning.

He added, “The rapid user adoption and the amount of time users are spending on our platform repeatedly, validates the need for such an innovation in the travel space.”
