It’s not just brands but our dear political parties have also realized that they need to connect with the common man if they wish to survive. The Left realized it a bit late and this had to make way for Trinamool Congress. Trinamool Congres(TMC) is the party that is trying to change the face of West Bengal after dethroning the Left wing in the state elections. TMC knows very well that the strength and the growth of its party’s baton lies in the hands of the Indian youth. So TMC is not only planning to mentor the Facebook generation but also scale up its 360 degree of Social Media engagement with the youth.

TMC has recently roped in Farhan Akhtar, Leander Paes, Sam Pitroda, etc. in its eight member committee who will act as mentors for the parties youth wing. The same was also confirmed by the well known TMC MP Elect, Derek O’Brein :

“We want more and more young educated people to join politics - Farhan is excellent in his field of work, Leander is great in sports so each of us will be sharing our experiences and our failures with the young members.”

TMC embarked on the route of social media during the election campaign. The move saw enrolling of its services with Sabeer Bhatia as a mentor and witnessed a bunch of management graduates from IIM-C doing their internship with TMC during elections. However, the new leader of All India Trinamool Yuva Committee, Abhishek Banerjee the 24 year old nephew of Mamta Banerjee is fostering the growth of social media:

“There are a large number of young people who want to join politics but their parents refrain them from doing it. We want to guide them and show them the way.”

The existing presence on various social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc is worth praising. However its just not about connecting but TMC should also believe in real engagement with it’s fans . Hopefully TMC would be real and would also be a great listener on social media communities unlike its fellow competitors: BJP, Indian National Congress, etc. who treat social media as another form of press release.
