Tourism Australia is back this year to reward deserving Indian professionals with a break down under. The Australian government agency responsible for getting more visitors to Australia, has announced the ‘Who deserves a break to Oz?’ contest in partnership with online travel portal Makemytrip.com. Encouraged by the positive response the campaign received last year, it has been launched again with more prizes and avenues for participation.
Hosted on the contest microsite ‘Who deserves a break in Oz’ now offers Facebook login too, in addition to LinkedIn login. One needs to nominate their friends and co-workers who they feel deserve a break. Two participants to receive the maximum number of nominations stand a chance to win the grand prize – a week-long vacation in the world’s largest island. Whats more, all participants who nominate a minimum of three mates also win guaranteed discount vouchers worth Rs. 10,000 from MakeMyTrip.
I logged in through LinkedIn and was welcomed with a grid view of all the members on my network. Click the check boxes beside each name to nominate them. The app then lets you choose the Australian experience that is best suited to your nominee from a ‘private island picnic in the Great Barrier Reef’, ‘a self drive along The Great Ocean Road’, ‘a climb to Sydney Harbour bridge’ or a visit to the Kangaroo Island.
An email will be sent to them further informing them to participate with their nominations. After choosing a different experience for each, you can claim the Makemytrip voucher by sharing your email id. You can then proceed to signing in through your Facebook login to nominate more friends from your Facebook network. A message will be sent to each of the nominees.
While the site features more Australian must visit places, you can also invite your friends to vote for you.
The campaign has also made use of ads on Facebook, LinkedIn and MakemyTrip to spread the word.
‘Who deserves a break in Oz’ fits in
The tourism booster campaign is a win-win for all parties concerned. While it helps Tourism Australia sell Australia as a perfect holiday destination for both business and leisure, it helps the professional network LinkedIn too and manages to reach out to its relevant target group of affluent working Indians looking to discover the thrills of an island vacation in Australia.
As all aspects of the contest remain the same, the inclusion of Facebook is a welcome addition this year. It means more participation from connected networks and increased visibility for the campaign. Moreover, participants have been incentivized this time – discount vouchers from makemytrip for nominating 3 or more members from a users’ network will further boost participation.
Hope you have nominated your connections.
