Social media is the biggest thing to have happened in today’s times. One may debate about the negativity that has spread due to social media, but it depends on how we use it. With conducting a live event on Sunday via Facebook, Art of Living Founder Sri Sri Ravishankar has exemplified the reach benefits of the network, by bridging the gap between his devotees who are scattered all over the world.
The face2face interaction that focused on issues ranging from love, relationships, maintaining faith in times of calamities, addictions, depression, success and societal violence, was live streamed via the Facebook page of Sri Sri.
Speaking to TOI, Sujeet Kumar Singh, Art of Living Bureau of Communication, The Art of Living International Center, stated that the live stream was witnessed in 148 countries. Sharing about the interactions Sujeet informed that Sri Sri offered solutions that were universal and farsighted.
The questions kept on pouring from various quarters of the globe from eminent people such as Monika Griefahn, former member of the German Parliament and co-founder of Greenpeace Germany; Ricardo E Harvey, Coordinator of the programme of security, Corraentes, Argentina; Shirin Ibrihem Fattah Amedi, secretary-general of Iraq, Kurdish Women’s Union and civil society members from countries like Korea, Turkey and Iran.
The live event saw a good turnout due to the offline charisma of Sri Sri and the constant updates about the Face2Face event on social media by the page admins. The verified Facebook page that has more than 397K followers created a Facebook app and embedded the Livestream app for the live streaming the event. In the mean time, the page has been posting relevant updates with the required information about the event on Facebook.
Sri Sri has been a believer of social media. Earlier to the Facebook live event, he had conducted a Google Hangout in the month of January. An impressive list comprising of Indian and global dignitaries from all walks of life were part of the hangout. The hangout also included an online guided meditation by Sri Sri, apart from discussing ideas for a stress-free world. Questions were invited on Google Plus under the hashtag #srisrihangout.
It is impressive to see how religious figures are using social media for getting in touch with their followers and involving in a live discussion.
