One wrong move by a brand or one wrong statement from a political party is enough to get oneself trending on Twitter. Today was the day of Samajwadi Party (SP) politician Ram Gopal Yadav who has been trending on Twitter since morning for his weird statement against IAS officers.
The politician’s weird statement made earlier in the day:
UP govt can run state with state officers, don’t need IAS officers-Ram Gopal Yadav,SP on Durga Shakti Nagpal pic.twitter.com/B7osstkuVE
— ANI (@ANI_news) August 5, 2013
The statement comes at a time when confrontation between the Center (UPA) and the UP government is escalating over the suspension of the IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal. In tandem the SP party, which has been justifying the controversial suspension from day one, has once again got support from the Chief Minister of UP, Akhilesh Yadav,
“There might be many children (sitting here) who I can say would have received a beating from their teachers and parents when they had done something wrong. The government is also run like this, whenever any official does something wrong, he is punished”, Akhilesh Yadav said, while addressing a function in Lucknow.
Tensions started growing after it was known that Durga Shakti Nagpal, an IAS officer of the 2010 cadre has been suspended for reasons that were not true in the first place. She was suspended recently for demolishing the wall of a religious structure, which was motivated to lead riots in the region. However, the sub-divisional magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar never demolished the wall of any religious structure.
Reports have also suggested that the suspension, which happened on a Sunday morning, is due to Durga’s action against corruption and launching a massive drive against illegal sand mining within her jurisdiction of Gautam Budh Nagar. It is being said that a senior Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha aspirant controls the bulk of the sand mining activities in the area and the massive crackdown affected his business.
Demands by netizens on social media to the opposition parties and IAS Officers’ associations to revoke her suspension have been growing. This has led the Center to intervene and has sought a report from SP on the suspension of the IAS officer through letters.
Till now SP has not provided any report to the Center and in reply has challenged the Center to pull back IAS officers from the state.
Ram Gopal Yadav trends on Twitter
Like Narendra Bhati, who had recently shared that he got the IAS officer suspended in 41 minutes, Ram Gopal Yadav has been trending all day long. Some of the chatter that is doing the rounds on Twitter are shared below:

Ram Gopal Yadav, You don’t want IAS Officers and We don’t want politicians in our Country.

I’m not sure if Ram Gopal Yadav is worried about his online reputation; even if he is not, netizens and TV are sure to get him worried.
It would be interesting to see how the case moves forward for the brave IAS officer who was duty-bound to save the environment.
