There’s never been a good time for some good old retail therapy than now. Armed with smartphones and even smarter shopping apps, one can shop from the various ecommerce sites springing up in the country from the comfort of their couch. In fact, now one can shop from multiple e-commerce sites through one mobile app called ShopAlike.
The newest entrant in the Indian e-commerce market, ShopAlike.in, a product comparison website for fashion, lifestyle products, home furnishing and more, has now come up with a mobile app available for Android, iOS and Windows. The ShopAlike app lets you view products from all major online shops, thus saving you the trouble of visiting each one of them individually. It also provides a ‘price comparison’ feature between similar products.
Berlin-based Shopalike.in is a part of Visual Meta GmbH, a company owned by Axel Springer SE. Visual Meta is present in 19 different countries worldwide and entered the Indian market with the launch of ShopAlike.in at the beginning of 2014. India is its first market outside of Europe.
I downloaded the android app from the Google Play Store which has a rating of 4.1, with the intention to review it, and hopefully stumble upon some great deals online.
At the outset, it asks for your gender and country. The homepage is simple and pleasing to the eye with broad categories like women, men, children, baby and more to select from. Else specific searches can be made on the search bar. ‘My shopalike’ displays your last searches, last viewed products along with popular products for your gender.
I searched for ‘dresses’ and the app threw up 18,879 dresses from 14 online shops. Browsing through all of these is close to a nightmare, but not really thanks to the options like ‘Sort’ and ‘Filter’ available at the bottom. I was able to sort the products based on price, top selling, highest reductions or the newest arrivals. Further, one can set filters like colour, size, brand, price sub-category to get to what they are exactly looking for.
Once you find the product you are looking for, you see the picture and description along with the link to the online shop. You can either add your favourite products instantly to a leaflet with the star button at the top or share it via mail, text message or social networks. The leaflet can be used to create many lists of your favourite products.
The app directs you to the particular ecommerce store and also provides a way to come back into the app, should you wish to buy the product right away.
The app also lists products on sale across all ecommerce sites, under the ‘sale’ tab in every category. That must be just too much for bargain hunters but not for me, as I’m always sceptical about discounted items on ecommerce sites!
Should you have Shopalike on your phone?
Most of us are loyal e-shoppers, let’s admit it. We might look at a desired product at the local store but we end up buying it online, given the competitive pricing e-commerce companies are able to provide. If one can browse through all the e-commerce websites at one go, right from their smartphone and compare pricing across all of them, downloading the ShopAlike app is a good thing. It offers a one-stop solution, much like Amazon’s Junglee android app which offers product search and price comparison across partner websites.
ShopAlike has a simple user interface with intuitive features for an enhanced user experience; moreover I was impressed with the navigation design that guides you at any point in the app.
Looking at the e-commerce boom and the rise of mid-segment smartphones in India, Berlin-based ShopAlike app is in for a decent upward growth in the country, now shifting towards a mobile driven economy. Do give it a shot and share your experiences with us.
