How many of us are aware what Luge as a sport is? And the successive question is how many of us are aware that Luger Shiva Keshavan K P is India’s only medal hope at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
I had a fair idea about Luge, an Olympic sport which is one of the fastest, dangerous and most precisely timed sports in the world. But had no idea about Shiva who created a new Asian speed record of 134.3 kmph in 2011. Thanks to Nimish Adani who shared the news report that was carried out by Mid Day.
The 32 year old athlete who trains and resides in the state of Himachal Pradesh has launched a very interesting campaign – “India For Shiva.” The campaign focuses not only on spreading awareness about the Luge sport but also gathering support for Shiva, who is right now training himself for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
A website has been launched to gain support from the online community. The portal features Shiva’s breathtaking performance of the sport. In the video he is travelling on an unmotored sled at a speed above 100 km per hour down the ill-famed dangerous Leh-Manali highway. If you are still wondering how dangerous and risky is the sport then watch the video.
Furthermore, Shiva promises that if we share the video and support his initiative that is also backed up by the telecom operator MTS, then your name is going to be printed on his Olympic racing suit. The campaign has made a presence on Twitter and is quite actively updating about the sport and the campaign. Additionally, MTS India has also launched a Facebook app to gather support for the initiative.
I am going to support Shiva and cheer for India during the Winter Olympics. Would you? It’s time when we look beyond Cricket. Time to recognize and support heroes like Shiva who are silently doing their best to serve the nation.
Good luck Shiva Keshavan!
