To help merchants boost the shopping experience, especially on mobile, Gurgaon based One MobiKwik Systems that runs the online recharge platform Mobikwik.com has partnered with online bus ticketing site redBus. Reported by Techcircle, the new alliance will allow users to pay for ticket reservations directly from MobiKwik mobile wallet. The firm is also offering 5 percent cash back on every transaction done using the wallet.

Started in 2009, MobiKwik wallet has been designed to deliver a fast checkout experience, irrespective of the merchant or channel, stated Bipin Preet Singh, founder and CEO.

MobiKwik enables prepaid mobile, DTH and data card recharges, post-paid mobile bills payment and utility bill payment. Besides the firm also offers these services via SMS, phone and apps that are available for Android, iOS and Java platforms.

The mobile wallet that allows users to add money to a prepaid wallet through net banking, credit card or debit card enables customers store up to Rs. 50,000 in the wallet at a time and use it to purchase goods and services on third-party merchant websites and mobile applications. To influence consumer behaviour of using mobile wallets the company is also offering exclusive discounts. These discounts range from travel to shopping to flowers.

Talking about features, MobiKwik recently added a new feature to its mobile wallet that enables its customers to transfer cash offline and deposit in their wallet, instead of transferring the amount online from their bank accounts.

The feature will have a company executive visiting the offline location to collect the cash and the amount would be updated. As of now, users can deposit up to Rs. 10,000, and use the service for mobile recharges as well as big-ticket items such as paying insurance premiums, etc.

Singh adds that – “Many people in India are still not familiar with making payments online or via a debit card, and this feature is specifically targeted at them.”

The latest alliance comes right after the New Delhi-based ibiboGroup, acquired bus tracking and analytics platform YourBus.in from Bangalore-based Lucido SoftLabs Pvt Ltd. ibiboGroup which had acquired the country’s top bus ticketing platform redbus.in a year back from Bangalore-based Pilani Softlabs Pvt Ltd. wants to integrate the YourBus platform with its online properties redBus.in and Goibibo.com.

Alliances like this will push the use of mobile payments and at the same time create eyeballs for MobiKwik in the already crowded space of mobile payments with players like Paytm (One97 Communications), Beam Money and QuikWallet.
