Tensions resurface in Pune after the city witnessed a tensed last week. According to DNA, fresh incidents of violence were reported in parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad on Sunday after some derogatory post regarding Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was posted on social networking sites.
This resulted in stone pelting incidents in areas such as Sinhagad road, Dandekar bridge, Bhatnagar and some other places while damaging 18 Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses. Both private and state buses have been affected by tensions once again surfacing in Pune.
However, there has been no report on which social network the content was posted and if the Cyber Cell department is getting into finding the miscreants.
The fresh violence submerged Pune after the city recently witnessed communal tensions due to an allegedly objectionable photograph posted on Facebook about the warrior king Shivaji, his son Sambhaji and late Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray. The link of the post was further circulated through messaging apps on phones, triggering the violent reaction on Saturday night.
More than 200 public transport buses and private vehicles were damaged in the past two days and incidents of arson, stone-pelting and rioting were reported from many parts of the city.
The matter shaped out to be worse when a young 24 year old IT professional Mohsin Sadiq Shaikh was killed, allegedly by members of a radical Hindu outfit, as he was returning home. Later on the police had arrested seven people, aged between 19 and 24 years, who are associated with the Hindu Rashtra Sena, a radical outfit active in the state.
