Looks like our 15th Prime Minister Narendra Modi had the last laugh in the entire PMO India social media handle case. The original PMO India social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter which were initially used by our ex PM Manmohan Singh have been finally handed over to Modi.
While the transfer may look smooth, an unnecessary controversy was created last week with the PMO India Twitter and Facebook accounts. The official Twitter account of the ex Prime Minister was renamed @PMOIndiaArchive, complying with the RTI Act and had all the tweets posted by the office till May 20.
Besides a new account was created for the new PM Modi, the account was clean as a new slate. The old Twitter account which tweeted last on May 17th 2014 had 1.24 million followers.
The entire episode of archiving and creating a fresh account had irked the BJP. According to a leading news agency ANI, the BJP said “Outgoing team PM Office has wrongly renamed Twitter handle of @PMOIndia against laws & accepted global norms of handover of digital assets”.
Arvind Gupta, BJP IT Cell Head said, “In an unethical manner they renamed @PMOIndia accnt, should have archived the tweets & handed over the handle.”
But looks like sanity has prevailed and Modi has got the official PMO Facebook (161K fans) and Twitter (1.34M) handles. Tweets till 26th have been archived but there is no such information about the Facebook updates, as the PMO India Facebook account has a fresh start from 27th.

Nevertheless, the proper transfer of digital assets have been finally done. So you can now follow the PMO accounts and it might have a revamped look as does the new official PM website.
