Messaging apps in the country are digging through new ways of revenue generation to survive in the cut throat market. The latest to join the bandwagon is the Indian messaging app Nimbuzz which has introduced a new ‘search and share’ feature that lets users exchange videos, movies, restaurants, places, events and other kinds of content without leaving its app.
Reported by TNW, the new feature that is powered by Sprylogic’s Poynt service, a company that specializes in mobile search for third-party mobile apps will allow users to search for a nearby restaurant or movie theater right inside the chat, and can share a specific listing with chat recipients using a swipe gesture.
The feature that is free-to-use at the moment is for now made available on Android and will be made available on iOS in the near future. The new feature will definitely give users the liberty to quickly share their favourite listings. It is going to save a great deal of copying and pasting links or posting screenshots to chat windows.
However, the company that claims to have 200 million registered users worldwide, 78 million of which reside in Asia, and 24 million of which reside in India will, at some point of time, use this feature as a revenue source. The latest feature adds to its existing arsenal of features beyond messaging such as calling international numbers, games, marketing initiatives among others.
The growth of messaging apps in the country has been one of the trends that is going to grow in the coming year too. With WhatsApp leading globally with 300M plus users and out of which 30M come from India and players like Hike, Line, WeChat, Viber trying to make a mark, it would be interesting to watch the growth of Nimbuzz.
