Idea Rocks India Calls For Auditions Through Facebook

A look at the Facebook auditions created by 'Idea Rocks India' where fans can audition directly through a Facebook app, to be able to share the stage with the stars

Do you have the singing voice and want to make it big? Fancy sharing the stage with the musical trio of Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy or the funky Punjabi singer Mika Singh? All you need to do is enter the ‘Idea Rocks India’ live auditions on Facebook and record your favourite number through your microphone. Sponsored by telecom brand Idea Cellular, ‘Idea Rocks India’ is a talent hunt contest being held in nearly 16 cities. The winner will ultimately gain publicity by singing on the stage event along with the big names mentioned above. There is no cash prize, however, the winner might also be called for further stage shows by Idea.

Apart from Facebook auditions, once can also audition through the specially designed website for ‘Idea rocks India’ or through their mobile phone.

Idea Rocks India Facebook auditions

A Facebook application on Idea’s Facebook page hosts the audition room. ‘Like’ the page and become a fan to enter the audition room. Register with your personal details like name, email, mobile number and city to proceed towards recording. The app does not pull up even your name but at least that is better than sweating it out at offline auditions.

After you have practised the song you are going to record, hit the record button and sing. Listen to your recording through ‘replay’. If you like what you hear, you can submit or else you can always re-record it. But, remember that you have only three chances to record your audition.

Auditions on Facebook, is it cool?

The concept, although not unique, is a cool attempt to involve the social media community. Apart from building a strong community base on Facebook, the campaign ensures the 4.2 million Idea fans that they have stuff to look forward to, other than the customised content being served to them every week. But, as compared to the dedicated website for ‘Idea rocks India’, the Facebook app is quite basic and only serves as an audition room.

Similar to the audition room on the website, the app rocks in its design as well as execution. With the required information available on a simple layout, it also has its checks in place. I was able to proceed only after entering valid personal details. The ‘invite’ friends feature is a good addition to have in a Facebook campaign, especially in a Facebook audition campaign. However, I was hoping the app would also include a Facebook Share button somewhere. This feature would have enabled the app to be shared within the network and  bring in increased visibility.

Nevertheless, this Facebook audition idea is something I like, and the Facebook and Twitter pages of Idea are also actively involved in spreading the word, which makes it even cooler.
