How To Create Custom Branded Content The CollegeHumor Way #SXSW

Spencer Griffin and Luke Simmons teamed up at the first day of SXSW 2015 to talk about how to create custom branded content The CollegeHumor way

Today everyone wants to be a pro in creating custom branded content - whether for their own brand or for another company. But nobody makes it better – or funnier – than the folks at leading comedy website CollegeHumor.

Created by Josh Abramson and Ricky Van Veen in early 2009, the site features daily original comedy videos and articles created by its in-house writing and production team, in addition to user-submitted videos, pictures, articles and links. Last year the company IAC’s Electus has essentially merged with CollegeHumor Media to form a new entity, Electus Digital. As part of that deal, the company has built a new production unit, Big Breakfast, with the mission of bringing College Humor styled Web content to more screens, including TV and films.

Ideal company to draw enough crowd for a thirty minute talk on - Creating Custom Branded Content. Two often at the helm of CollegeHumor’s branded content efforts – Spencer Griffin (Vice President, Big Breakfast; Executive Producer, CollegeHumor) and Luke Simmons (Director of Branded Content, Electus Digital & CollegeHumor) – teamed up for the discussion.

Listed below are the highlights of the talk curated from Twitter.

How to pitch

Don’t teach your client how - just deliver

Don’t burn out the audience

Be great to work with

Good branded content needs to be agreed upon
