Online content business is a challenge! On the Internet readers jump to your site on a click but also leave with another one, if you do not cater interesting stuff. Along with a mix of regular interesting content you need to provide the reader some more fodder so that she keeps coming back. FirstPost, the online news portal from the Network18 group came up with an idea to make the commenting system a far richer experience – YouSpeak, a platform that allows you to share your views via videos was launched earlier this month.
How does YouSpeak work?
Talking to MediaNama, Durga Raghunath, VP Product and Executive News, Firstpost, shared that the idea behind this move was to create a rich experience to a technology that has been out there for a real long time. So if you would love to add a voice and a face to your thoughts then go ahead and click on YouSpeak. However, do remember FirstPost is not in favour of anonymous profiles. The platform has integrated Facebook and Twitter logins.
Once you are logged in, your profile is created and you are invited to share your view. Firstpost checks for a video camera and once it is detected, you are all set to record your 30 second video. The video app has the option to preview before you submit the video. So in case you are not happy with it, you have enough time to work on it before finally uploading it.
Once your video is approved you get a confirmation from the team at FirstPost. The profile created on YouSpeak not only shows your videos but you can also check video responses from others stacked under categories such as India, Sports, Entertainment, etc. The platform is also showcasing views from FirstPost editors to create a dialogue and increase interactivity from readers.
To build a buzz around YouSpeak, FirstPost has come up with a very interesting campaign – #TalkDontJustType. The objective is to encourage readers to speak by using the YouSpeak platform and not just type. To make it interactive, FirstPost has started a funny video series where the two characters enact your tweet. The below video should give you an idea about the fun quotient, it is a video tweet of Poonam Pandey.
If you log into FirstPost’s YouTube channel, you will find a list of funny videos that have been created to promote the #TalkDontJustType initiative. And if you want to check how your tweet looks like on a video then just tweet using #TalkDontJustType and #FPYouSpeak.
Getting your readers to speak
Although the online videos medium hasn’t picked up in India yet for various reasons, FirstPost’s initiative plays well with limitations. The platform which is just video responses is just a beginning. And the way people are posting video content shows the interest. I am sure that FisrtPost won’t just stop only by building another way of commenting. It is all set to make a base of fans that love video and transform it into a video content platform. The possibilities are endless and with features like keeping anonymous at bay and strict moderation, YouSpeak is giving clear indication of growth.
#TalkDontJustType adds to the growth of YouSpeak. Humor, if played well can work and #TalkDontJustType is doing the same. Integrating Twitter and YouTube for this campaign is really a smart move as both the networks are sure to give it a massive amount of buzz and reach. With an android app coming in future, FirstPost will completely seal YouSpeak!
What do you think? And how do you see the initiative of moving a reader from typing to talking?
