“Facebook has evolved from a ‘mobile first’ to ‘mobile best’ company as it becomes the primary reason for many to access the Internet,” says Facebook India Country Growth Manager Kevin D’Souza, while sharing that 62 million Indian mobile users have been accessing the social network.
Facebook, which recently shared that it has 699 million daily active users (DAU) and 1.15 billion monthly active users (MAU) as of Q2 2013 globally, today revealed that the number of MAUs in India has shot up by 5 percent to 82 million for the April-June period of this year. Which means 75% monthly visits come from mobile.
The company which believes that the next billion users are going to come through mobile, had last reported that the network had 78 million users in India during the period of January to March, 2013.
Facebook’s Mobile growth in Q2 2013
While sharing the latest numbers during the Q2 earnings, the firm’s mobile growth spiked to 819 million MAUs and 469 million DAUs on an average for June 30, 2013. Facebook has attributed the strong growth from emerging markets such as India and Brazil.
The second quarter was also important for Facebook since it not only saw growth in Mobile numbers but also a spike in revenues from the concerned segment. The segment represented approximately 41% of advertising revenue for the second quarter of 2013. Click here to find more about the operational numbers of Facebook for the Q2 2013.
Just yesterday TC has reported that Facebook going forward will bring more transparency in sharing country-by-country web and mobile monthly and daily user counts. According to the latest numbers, Facebook witnesses 101 million US daily mobile users make up a whopping 78% of its 128 million daily US users.
Believing that businesses should focus on people who come back online every single day, Facebook has revealed MAU and DAU data for UK and US. Just to let you know the latest data are not ‘Mobile Only’ but Mobile – each user who accessed via mobile, whether or not they also accessed via desktop is counted.
Facebook has also told TC that going further it is going to reveal numbers of other countries once the local teams are ready. I am hoping that the India numbers would be revealed soon considering the dominant base of Facebook in the country.
