Facebook has collaborated with the Union Ministry of women and child Development (MWCD) to launch the ‘#100Women Initiative’ – an initiative to recognize and acknowledge 100 women who are making a difference in their communities, across the country.
The ‘#100Women Initiative’ involves a contest to select 100 women achievers of India through public nominations via social media.
“We have all had women in our lives who’ve made a difference, who have changed the course of our own lives, who’ve left a mark on the entire community and changed it for the better. We don’t thank them enough. Here is your chance to honor the women who’ve made a difference to your community,” Maneka Gandhi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development said on the ministry’s idea for ‘#100Women Initiative’.
The contest begins July 15, 2015 and nominations will be taken until September 30, 2015. Log on to MWCD Facebook Page and complete the nomination form. Submit a photo or video showing the nominee in action in their community, thereby describing as to why the woman you nominated should be honored as India’s 100 most impactful women.
Voting will begin on November 7, 2015 on the top 200 entries as determined by an esteemed jury. The 100 most voted winners will be announced in December, 2015 and also invited to join a reception organized by the Ministry around Republic Day.
“Millions of people come on to Facebook everyday to talk about things that matter most to them. This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate women who have made a difference in our communities. We’re delighted to have this opportunity to celebrate and recognize the women of India,” Ankhi Das, Director of Public Policy in South and Central Asia at Facebook said.
