We are almost midway through the last month of 2013. Before the curtains draw on 2013, Facebook the world’s biggest social network has revealed some interesting insights for India as well as globally. The country which has more than 82M monthly users using Facebook, making it the most popular network in the country, has revealed three sets of visual data –
1. Top Life Events
2. Top Check-Ins in India
3. Most Talked About Topics
The methodology that Facebook used at its end to find top life events and check-ins: it looked at which life events and places generated the most posts and check-ins in 2013, and then used the data to create global and country-level rankings.
For the third data set most talked about, Facebook measured how many Facebook posts in 2013 mentioned a specific topic and then ranked those topics based on the overall number of mentions to create each list. Mentions include both the term itself and related hashtags.
Top Life Events
Globally the top life event that people added to their timeline most frequently in 2013 was adding a relationship status of getting engaged or married. Life events such as travelled, moved, first met someone, had a baby and ended a relationship followed respectively.
Top Check-Ins in India
The most checked in place in 2013 is Sukhdev Dhaba, Murthal followed by Golden Temple, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, New Delhi, Connaught Place, New Delhi and Prasads IMAX, Hyderabad. The list also includes Starbucks Coffee, Connaught Place, New Delhi but seems that Indians prefer the local dhaba or restaurant more appealing. Hopefully this helps Sukhdev Dhaba to spike up its sales. The below screen grab gives a quick look of the most checked in places on Facebook globally.
Most Talked About Topics
Surprisingly the most mentioned person of 2013 is not Sachin Tendulkar but it is BJPs PM candidate Narendra Modi. This also reflects the popularity of Modi on Facebook. The little master of Indian cricket who retired from all forms of cricket previous month is the second most mentioned person followed by iPhone 5S, the new RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and finally Mangalyaan, India’s ambitious mission towards Mars.
