A day prior to the #RailBudget, the Railway Ministry opened up its presence on social media with accounts on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Today the ministry made sure that the highlights of the rail budget reached to the users of social media. The Twitter account has been live tweeting the budget and this has also made sure that the Twitter trend #RailBudget stays at the top ten Indian Twitter trends.

Sadananda Gowda, the honorable minister of railways tweeted this morning from his personal Twitter handle about his excitement to present his maiden Twitter budget.

With the #RailBudget already trending from the start of the day, the official Twitter handle of the Railways Ministry has been live tweeting the budget as the minster started his presentation in the Parliament. Listing some of the tweets here:

On Facebook, information from the budget presentation has been similar to Twitter. Besides visual content is playing a role on Facebook. The Facebook page has been updating its 125K fans with all the fey facts shared in the form of images.

Additionally, Railways also launched a new number — 022-45015555 — where people can dial in and listen to the rail budget. I dialed in late but a timely message from the number informed that I can still catch all the updates on social media with account information. Now isn’t that a smart way of using social media and technology for the occasion. The use of both Hindi and English for communication on this event is worth appreciating and helps for a wider reach on social media.

The PMO India has also been quite active on Twitter in spreading the word on the #RailBudget.

Speaking yesterday on the move to join social media, the Railway Minister had shared that it is PM Modi’s vision and the objective is to disseminate information quickly. “Tomorrow we are going to present the Rail Budget. As soon as the budget is presented, all information will appear on Twitter and Facebook,” he said.

Maximum involvement of the common man with government work has been our social media savvy PM Narendra Modi’s sole objective after coming into power. Looks like this is going to be one of the trends for such events and no one would be complaining about it.
