BJP Assigns Amit Shah To Mobilise Social Media For 2014 Elections

BJP has assigned Amit Shah, who is already in charge of the party's election plans for Uttar Pradesh to mobilize social media for the election campaign.

Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial Candidate for 2014 general elections of India, Narendra Modi  is leaving no stone unturned whether it be offline or online. There is no doubt that the CM of Gujarat has been the early adopter of technology and social media. To bolster his social media election campaign, the minister has appointed his most trusted lieutenant and right-hand man Amit Shah.

The decision was taken a day after the BJP’s top 12 leaders met to discuss their strategy for 2014, important posts have been assigned by BJP president Rajnath Singh. The party – that had earlier selected Narendra Modi as its campaign chief – has appointed Amit Shah to mobilize social media for the election campaign.

The decision comes as no surprise as it is a known fact that Amit Shah, who is already in charge of the party’s election plans for Uttar Pradesh resides in the good books of the Gujarat Chief Minister. The ex-home minister of Gujarat, Amit Shah, who recently vowed to build a Ram temple in Ayodha also has a tainted past like most of the Indian politicians.

Currently the Modi Loyalist is under judicial bail as one of the accused for kidnapping and encounter killing by the State Police of Sohrabuddin Shaikh, his wife Kauserbi and their friend Tulsiram Prajapati. Besides this, according to The Supreme Court Of India, he is not permitted to enter his home state of Gujarat where he may influence the investigations.

Amit Shah’s appointment to mobilise social media has come right after the Gujarat CM had assigned Rajesh Jain and BG Mahesh to drive his social media campaign.

The Indian internet industry is aware of the success stories of the two, who are often recalled as “The Original Dotcom poster boys.” Rajesh is well known for selling IndiaWorld to Sify for Rs. 499 crore and Mahesh has been successful in founding companies like IndiaInfo and OneIndia. The successful duo are now making sure that BJP comes into power in next elections and for that they are putting together a 100-member content and technology team in Bangalore to drive Modi’s internet campaign.

It would be interesting to keep an eye on how Amit Shah carries forth the social media election campaign for his party since he is also considered to be one of the hardliner in his party.
