Despite being one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world, smartphone penetration in India is only 10%, which is why handset makers are eyeing the country, in turn boosted by the welcome carpet laid by the current Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ drive.
ASUS is the latest in the array of global companies to have heeded to ‘Make in India’. The tech company from Taiwan announced last week the setting up of a smartphone manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, in partnership with Foxconn. It plans to kickstart manufacturing operations with Zenfone 2 Laser followed by ZenFone Go.
Ushering in the great news, the brand rolled out an awesome video taking a viewer through a journey of ‘Incredible India’. Inspired by the brand’s tagline ‘In Search of Incredible,’ the core idea behind the video is to sensitize audiences and instill a sense of pride in all things ‘Incredible Made in India’.
Conceptualized and created by digital agency BC Web Wise, the 2.25 minute video makes use of an interesting medium for its visual storytelling – sand!
Through visuals created purely by sand, the video showcases several historic exploits and inventions by Indian individuals and institutions right from the invention of Zero, building the world’s largest railway network, to the most economical Mars mission, and even Sachin’s 100 centuries in ODI cricket. It closes by adjoining ASUS India’s announcement to manufacture the Zenfone range in India.
ASUS India unveiled the video on its Facebook page along with incentives to boost sharing on the network. It asked fans to share their wishes with the hashtag #ZenfoneMadeInIndia to win one of the 5 limited edition AskZenny pen drives. One could also participate through the brand’s Twitter page.

The video has received over 18K likes on Facebook and 121K views on the brand’s YouTube channel, with mostly positive sentiments floating around. Indians love celebrating the country’s accomplishments through history and ASUS has done a good job in showcasing Incredible India.
‘Incredible Made in India’ makes the right impact with digital storytelling. Announcing its local manufacturing facility couldn’t have been in a more interesting way for ASUS. The use of sand art further adds to the appeal and makes for a share-worthy video on social networks.
ASUS is extending the Made in India campaign by tying up with Pratham, NGO for underprivileged kids. A collage of drawings made by the kids will be printed on bags designed for the first 2000 buyers of the Zenfone 2 Laser from Flipkart and ASUS exclusive stores, this Diwali. Each bag will have a box of chocolates and a greeting card wishing users a Happy Diwali, along with a signed note from Peter Chang, India Country Manager (System Business Group).
