Looks like the AIB Roast debate on whether it is appropriate for the Indian society or not is not going to die down any soon. In a latest string of events, noted filmmaker and social activist Ashoke Pandit who also happens to be a member of India’s censor board has made a derogatory tweet against filmmaker Karan Johar and has equated AIB to a porn show.

AIB, one of India’s premiere comedy collectives created a storm on social media with their latest offering #AIBKnockout and the ensuing controversy. The roast of Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor with Karan Johar as the roast master, #AIBKnockout is available as a three-part video series uploaded last week on YouTube; it is now getting undue attention from the Maharashtra Government.
The rude, offensive, filthy but entertaining show that happened in December created an online stir since yesterday after news broke out that the show would be investigated over being guilty of obscene language and content. Besides a police case has also been registered by Akhilesh Tiwari, President of Brahman Ekta Seva Sanstha agaisnt Karan Johar, actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, on the claims that the trio had used “filthy and abusive language”
According to Akhilesh, the show was not only abusive and ruining the clean image of the Indian culture & women, but is also misleading today’s youth.
Twitter is right now divided between two sets of people who are supporting and trending “We Stand By AIB Knockout” and another set who support the investigation and are trending “AIB National Shame”.

While Vinod Tawde had earlier tweeted that no moral policing would be done, Ashoke Pandit’s tweet only adds fuel to the ongoing controversy.

At a time when the Censor Board is stepping up and muting lyrics because it was Bombay and not Mumbai, the latest tweet from a filmmaker to another filmmaker does no good.
Inspired by Comedy Central’s roasts of Hugh Hefner, Pamela Anderson, Charlie Sheen, among others, AIB’s Roast came with a big warning that it is a filthy show. The rude, offensive, filthy but entertaining show happened in December when both the stars along with other guests in the panel took on all kinds of filthy and outrageous insults to entertain a live audience.
While the show is being labelled offensive, it has raised 40 lakhs for charity.
