A year back if you would have asked any politician why he/she is not present on social media they would have smiled and said that it is a hang out place for kids. Today the stance has changed and every other politician is present on social media, especially on Twitter. The agenda is pretty clear, everyone is aware that social media itself can’t make you win elections but you can’t ignore the medium. Today from controversy to making stands clear, everything happens on social media.
However, there have been some politicians who have been staunch believers in the medium. Arvind Kejriwal, the man behind Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or common man’s party is one such politician who has been a strong believer and communicator of social media. Recently in a conversation with us, he had shared, “Social media is here to stay. We have to adapt to it, or we will not be able to connect to people.”
While his year old party has shown a healthy organic growth on social media, Arvind has also been quite active on Twitter and Facebook. Specially on Twitter where he has more than 681K followers, he has been quite critical in expressing his thoughts. Recently he went one step ahead by agreeing to be a part of a Twitter interview while replying to each and every question in a sporting manner asked by CNN-IBN Deputy Editor Sagarika Ghose.
10 questions were placed by Sagarika on Twitter in real time and Arvind replied to them in his signature fearless manner. You can find the Storify version of the Q&A session here.
The Twitter reaction was obviously positive for a party that has been out there to create a positive difference. While all the answers from Arvind got a major response from the netizens on Twitter, what followed later was the appreciation of such a move by a politician coming out in open for a debate on a medium which is still not preferred by most.
Some of the tweets that did the most talking about the move are listed below:
This is new politics. Journalist @sagarikaghose ask straight questions and political leader @ArvindKejriwal gives straight answers. GOOD

AAP is contesting from Delhi this time and is pressing for an open debate with all the competing parties. While most of the parties have avoided such an open confrontation this has been a clever move by Arvind.
@sagarikaghose I hope u wud similarly question BJP and Congress also and I hope Sheila ji and Dr Harshvardhan wud reply

Though one may debate that these kind of Twitter interviews will not fetch votes but atleast Arvind has come forward and showed that he is ready for discussion amongst his own people. Unlike others who either don’t have a presence on Twitter or have chosen to ignore such an invite from Sagarika.
Fabulous! @ArvindKejriwal only politician who responded to my 10 quesns, when @BeWithRG and @narendramodi just ignored! A new type of neta:)
