Anand Mahindra ranks third in the first ranking of Top 30 CEOs on Social Media prepared by World Of CEOs.

Should CEOs be active on social media? A question being hotly debated for some time now. While pundits debate the pros and cons, visionary CEOs have globally embarked on the medium and aside from sharing their varied interests, they are easily connecting with their audience through social media.

Anand Mahindra TwitterAnand Mahindra, Chairman and MD, Mahindra and Mahindra, is one of those Indian CEOs, who has been an early adopter of social media. Pretty active on Twitter, he shares his views quite candidly on the social network. So when he was ranked as the third CEO in the first ranking of Top 30 CEOs on Social Media, I thought it was worth sharing, although we keep a distance from all kinds of social media rankings.

The list has been prepared by Steve Tappin, Chief Executive, Xinfu, BBC host, CEO, Guru & Founder, World Of CEOs. Sharing on how the list was compiled, Steve states that,

“Our goal was to combine the best of both approaches, taking into account both quantitative and qualitative measures to determine the top 30 CEOs on social media.

We have monitored Twitter, LinkedIn and the blogging activities of all CEOs from the Fortune 500 Global to Silicon Valley. We took into account their Klout score and looked at a range of qualitative measures around who creates true “value-added content”, as determined by users.

Value added was measured in terms of originality and positive impact on the corporate world, their industry, and application to their own company. We favored CEOs who had actively contributed to the leadership agenda. We reduced their score if it was seen as too obviously self-promoting or if we believe they have no direct involvement in social media content. We favored CEOs who had consistently contributed over time.”

Founder of Virgin Group, Richard Branson is ranked at the top. Yahoo’s CEO, Marrisa Mayer, Burberry Groups CEO, Angela Ahrendts and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg are the only three women ranked in the top 30 CEOs on social media.

Apart from the ranking, what caught my interest was that each profile has a small snippet – ‘Our Take’ telling you why a certain CEO made it to the list. While referring to Anand Mahindra, it states – “A lively Twitter account with lots of regional and emerging markets flavour from one of India’s richest men.” The below tweet from Anand’s Twitter account proves the claim.

Besides, if you click on the listed CEO’s pictures, you are diverted to the WorldOfCEOs.com that provides a detailed CEO Dossier, News, Written Profile, Social Links, etc. It is worth spending time reading about your favourite CEO Dossier, like I did reading about Anand.
