Google India's Great Online Shopping Festival GOSF 2013 goes live beginning 11th to 13th December with participation from over 200 retailers


The second edition of GOSF (Great Online Shopping Festival) is back. Google India’s second GOSF – the Indian version of cyber Monday, is the mother of online shopping festivals in India. Beginning today till the 13th of December, the 3-day shopping festival will see participation from more than 200 ecommerce players, local and classified companies, online travel sites, auto companies, telecom companies, fashion labels, health and well being companies, banking financial services, etc.

Initiated to build consumer awareness and confidence in online shopping, the GOSF seeks to encourage more Indians to shop online. As per a statement by Rajan Anandan, VP & Managing Director, Google India, industry estimates suggest that there are close to 20 million online shoppers in India and it’s estimated to grow to 50 million in next few years making it a 16 billion dollar industry.

The GOSF site has been down since most of the morning though. You could either shop by deals or browse by styles like ‘for the new mother’, ‘for the business woman’, ‘for the fashionista’, etc. This year, GOSF also tied up with Bollywood through Dhoom 3 makers. One can buy merchandise like attire and cosmetics worn by Katrina (Aaliya) and the ones worn by Aamir (Sahir) in the movie.

Google has been promoting GOSF through its many online properties. Google India has this interactive ad on YouTube masthead, which is similar to the gaming kisoks in the entertainment zones at shopping malls. Here instead of stuffed toys, one can grab mobile phones, laptops, bags and even cars, as you can see I’ve successfully grabbed!


Although the site has been throwing up errors since the morning, I was able to check a few mobile and book deals in between of it and wasn’t impressed as much. Hoping Google India fixes this up and impresses us with real deals that we will grab at!
