While it is true that bad things spread fast but at the same time good work by political parties are also appreciated by netizens on social media. According to Deccan Chronicle Tamil Nadu Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa’s pet project ‘Amma Unavagam’ or Mom’s Restaurant where food is provided at subsidized rates is being talked about on social media.
A recent study conducted by ‘Aspire’ Swaminathan, IT expert and psephologist states that netizens are appreciating the work being carried out at the budgeted canteens, run by state municipal corporations. He shared that,
“Among the 50,000-odd conversations recorded on socio-political issues in Tamil Nadu, Amma Unavagam has come out as the most discussed and liked socio-political issue. A majority of those who discussed the issue were in praise of the scheme.”
Swaminathan, an alumnus of IIM, Bangalore based his study on 50,000 conversations that happened on Facebook and Twitter between February 15 and May 15 this year.
The story has not shared the exact numbers and the social media monitoring tool that might have been used for tracking. However it is being said that the canteens got almost 40 percent posts/Tweets and about 60 percent retweets and likes, with many commenting about the quality food and the hygiene standards that are being maintained despite being charged at nominal rates.
The initiative has a Facebook page – Amma Unavagam running too which has close to 300 fans. The page is yet to find traction still the content that is shared is all about the activities and growth of the budget canteens with image and video content.
Positive interactions and feedback will further provide better reach for budget canteens on social media but it remains to be seen if these moves can help the CM in wooing netizens to vote.
