weekend_readingThe week gone by was another exciting one in the world of social media - if Twitter was coming out with latest features such as tailored trends and expanded tweets then we saw Facebook finally nailing it with real time advertising strategy by the launch of Facebook Exchange. Besides this the Indian social media scene has been evolving with case studies like the Castrol “The Grand Indian Road Trip” and campaigns such as History TV18, Chef Sanjeev Kapoor.

Also, we came across some interesting articles relating to the world of Indian social media. We’ve curated a few of those here:

1. Running away from the trolls: In this article in the Hindustan Times, the author, Namita Bhandare who is an avid tweeter as well as a journalist shares her experiences with Twitter trolls. Although, raking in some controversy for posting her views and advice, the article is a good read backed with research. Do read for the love of Twitter and the new-age battles being fought on it.

2. Is it being everywhere or being all over the place: Dinesh Juneja, co-founder of CreativaIndia blogs about how brands are missing the point of being where you ought to be in social media. Brands are either on social media because their competitors are there or present at places because their competitors are not there. The idea should be to be at a place where your customers are. Dinesh also shares three important tips on how to be relevant on social media.

3. Facebook India Male Stats- Young, Single, Male and own a BMW? In this guest article at Pluggdin, Peter Claridge from Unmetric demystifies Indian Facebook statistics as being particularly skewed towards young, single males. It is interesting to note why brands need to have a long term approach towards their Facebook presence, as Peter explains with a comparative fan demographics analysis for BMW Facebook page. This is a must read for Facebook account managers.

4. Foursquare updates their mobile app but is there a genuine scope for location based services in India?  Pooja Shah in her blog post reviews the latest Foursquare app briefly highlighting the cool changes that Foursquare has made in its new app. Besides this she raises the big question of Foursquare’s business value in India. We know that Foursquare had problems to expand out of US and it has failed badly in India too. Pooja discusses the way how the deal websites could have used them but failed.

5. Embracing the future of hard news - media organizations vs social media: Jyoth Kharat in her blog post shares a perspective of the changing media and how social media has affected the way we consume news today. But then every breaking news on social media is not reliable too so that leaves journalists in a soup. So should they ignore or adopt the rapidly growing media i.e. social media.

We hope you have a good time reading these and please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us.
