social media weekend readingThe week had some interesting developments in the Indian social media arena. We saw how a bunch of youngsters are taking the essence of blogging to new heights with the Indian Blogger League. At the same time, we also shared thoughts from the winners of KRDS hackathon and how relations of India–Pakistan were taken to a new level with the first social media conference at Karachi. We also got a chance to share insightful articles like the social media campaign of #GOW, a CPC comparison of online ads, review of India’s first social network of independent artists, etc.

The week also gave us a chance to read some interesting articles from the Indian social media space, which are as follows:

1. Manage your online reputation: Hashil Karia shares his wisdom in a guest post at Exchange4media on why and how brands should consider paying attention to online reputation.  Additionally, Harshil provides nine ways on how brands should go about on online reputation. A must read post if you are ignoring online reputation management or are unaware on how to go about it.

2. How should brands use public information you share on social media: Have you given a thought to who can use all the personal information you share on the Internet? In this post by Karthik S, he shares two incidents that helped the brands give their customer a memorable experience by doing a background check on him using information shared by him publicly. Karthik also talks about British Airways plans to implement this on a massive scale and how this could impact privacy issues.

3. Effective brand marketing – Apps the way: Badri Sanjeevi shares his thoughts in a guest post at Exchange4Media that brand marketing is little tough for brands on mobile hence they are adopting a new strategy of creating relevant content. Apps and games are the tools for the new strategy since they can be contextual, interactive, integrated with social media, etc. Badri moving further shares a perfect case study of IPL describing the way the brand did a 360-degree promotion and along with that they developed 10 casual games too. Result being every season of IPL witnessed 3 lakh downloads and the number of downloads in any one single sub category of casual games surpassed other such content, reflecting the power of brands. So the question is how many brands have realized it and making an effort to do so.

4. The effect of the web and social media on news publishing and consumption [Infographic]: Denzil shares a very interesting trend in his blog post at WAT. He talks about how consumption of news media has changed with time and he highlights the long debate of free vs. paid content. Going further he talks how social media has changed the game entirely. Today with Twitter, Facebook, etc. news travels fast and media houses have adapted to this new change like Firstpost. But he also points out how authenticity of news is at stake on social media networks. Finally he provides an infographic to show how US people are consuming news. Interesting article that brings a good perspective.

5.  The tips frenzy on Facebook: Somesh talks about a growing trend in this blog post which even I have observed on Facebook - Fan pages providing tips to their community. The list is getting huge from India Tips, Gujju Tips, Sindi Tips, MBA Tips, etc. The best part is that these pages have a humor quotient and that’s why it is connecting with fans. Somesh also adds that creating original content that resonates well with your audience will soar engagement levels. Interesting post to not be missed.

We hope that you enjoy our curated list for this week and do let us know if you would like to add some more articles to the list. You can always leave them as a comment or tweet us at @LHInsights.
