How To Engage With Fans On Facebook Fan Page

For a startup, managing a Facebook fan page is not easy and I am aware of it. Creating a Facebook profile and maintaining a fan page are two different things. The biggest challenge for a community manager or a person who is managing is to build a vibrant community. And take my word, it’s neither easy nor quick. After all we are dealing with humans. Someone may like a status message and five others may not like it. However as a startup there are few tips which you could execute, analyze and start the process again. Let me tell you that this means continuous hard work and results don’t come in a month. So if you think the above message doesn’t deter you, then read on how you as a startup can engage on your Facebook Fan base.
Clear Objective
If you can’t define your objective for having a Facebook fan page, then don’t start a Facebook fan page. It’s harsh to hear but if you can’t define this, then you can’t engage on Facebook. So before you even think about creating content and expect your fans to like it, make sure you define a clear objective. Archana’s Kitchen is a great example of this. It’s everything related to food and that’s what makes her popular too.
Active Presence
If you are absent in your fan page or make a guest appearance once in a week, then do you think your fan page will grow? Who wants to be a part of a ghost town other than bots. Be there and show your presence but don’t go overboard. We can’t tell you the ‘magic number’ for updates but do respect others time line. Horn Ok Please, apart from being an uber cool book also makes sure that it has an active Facebook presence and thus a brilliant community.
Quality Content
Quality content can only happen if you have a clear objective defined. Content doesn’t mean that you boast about your business and your accomplishments. If you want to do so, better do it somewhere else but not on Facebook. Fans are a part of your community for a reason. For e.g. Let’s say that you are a travel brand, then your community will more or less love to know travel tips, user experiences, recommended eateries, etc. In other words the content should be helpful to your community for it to be appreciated. Kunzum is an ideal example of quality content along with variety. The sole purpose of Kunzum is helping people and that can be very well seen on their fan page.
Use Apps
Apps make life easy and Questions, Discussions are great apps. Use them rationally to get your fans involved in it. Engagement is always appreciated and it will lead to positive word of mouth. For e.g. when a fan likes or engages on your wall it also appears to his community. Don’t you think a decent engagement from your side will also lead to attract others too? Use of ‘Polls’ app for conducting polls and getting viewpoint from your fans is another brilliant way to crowd source ideas and engage.
Appreciate Fans
Appreciating fans is a great way to make them feel special about being a part of the community. We all love appreciation and a good example has been set by Social Media Examiner. They appreciate the most actively engaging fan on their Facebook wall on a weekly basis. Though it is a simple way, it is an effective one for engaging. So put on your thinking caps and start appreciating your fans.
Cool Contests
Contests are a great way of engaging fans but care should be taken with Facebook’s guidelines as you don’t want your fan page to be deleted. People love to participate in contests and organizing contests like CerraMatter is doing is really innovative. Be creative in engaging your fans but don’t make contests for ‘liking’ some product or features of your business. Nothing is worse than that.
If you are a startup and are engaging in any other way, then do enlighten us. And as always, I reiterate: all the above tips should not be considered as golden rules because the only golden rule in social media is “Experiment and fall further.”
