Five Free Twitter Apps To Make You Productive

Twitter is an ocean and the more you go deep into it, the more you tend to be lost. Productivity goes down the drain and you spend hours without making any sense of the 140 characters. However the Twitter developer community has built some great apps that make your Twitter experience productive. I am sharing my favorite five twitter apps that are free and have made me productive.

1. Hootsuite:

This is my favorite app in the list. I consider Hootsuite as a complete tool to manage social media. However I use Hootsuite only for my Twitter engagement with my community. It’s been more than six months and definitely Hootsuite has increased my productivity on Twitter by streamlining lot of things.

Cool Features:

I can easily group atleast 10 tabs under one section. For e.g. I create a main tab for Influencers and in it I can add 10 columns each being an influencer. Isn’t that an awesome feature?

Keywords tracking is really very easy. For e.g. Every morning, I search for Indian social media news on twitter. Creating keywords and fetching the results in columns has made life really easy and productive.

I am a big fan of Twitter chats these days and thanks to my friend @Leowid who made me aware of the importance of Twitter chats. Hootsuite can act as a great app for following Twitter chat stream effectively.

Managing multiple profiles, creating RSS and fetching reports of my Twitter performance are some of the other features that make my life productive on Twitter.

Publisher, the new feature introduced by Hootsuite also adds to my productivity. I can schedule my Tweets the way I want but the design is not at all user friendly.

Not Cool Features:

Trending Topics is a big disappointment on Hootsuite. I am from India and I want to track topics trending in India. For now it doesn’t allow me to do so.

Publisher needs to be more user friendly. The process is tedious to schedule your tweets.

2. Tweetdeck

Another amazing app that is quite popular like Hootsuite. Before I moved on to Hootsuite, I was a fan of Tweetdeck . However Tweetdeck is still a hot Twitter app as discussed in the #toolschat by Twitteraties

Cool Features:

You can easily create columns for different accounts and groups. This helps you to track Twitter stream at one glance.

Tweetdeck is great with trending topics. It allows users to select trending topics based on geographical locations.

Keyword search is really very easy to enhance my Twitter performance.

Not Cool Features:

Tweetdeck lacks insufficient grouping of columns as possible in Hootsuite. You can’t group multiple columns under one group like Hootsuite does.

Lack of other features such as scheduling, analytic’s, etc.

3. Strawberryj.am

The name and the app both are brilliant and surely it has made my life productive. The biggest problem I face when I look at my Twitter stream is that when will I be able to catch the stream live. People are continuously tweeting and in this chatter, the important links disappear. It is impossible to keep pace with the Twitter stream and that’s why you need an app like Stawberryj.am.

Cool Features:

Fetches all the links that are trending on your network.

Delivers you all the links to your mailbox at a time specified by you.

You can also track the trending links of last 8 hours, 16 hours and 24 hours.

Searching keywords and lists are really efficient and very cool.

The app also provides a way to read the links on the app or if you want you can read them at a later time with the help of Instapaper. This feature really saves my time.

Finally if you love the article then you have an option to retweet or might as well buffer and make your tweets count.

4. Summify

Productivity and efficient use of time is very much required if you really want to be a pro on Twitter. Summify is an app that summarizes what you should read daily. It’s curated content daily served on your inbox to enhance Twitter performance.

Cool Features:

Fetches the most popular stories depending upon the number of reactions its got on Twitter and Facebook.

Also provides a gist of other stories from the same source that might be of interest.

The links are delivered on your email on your specified timing or you can read on the app.

You can share the story from the app but to read it you are directed to the original site. Would have loved if it had a feature like Strawberryj.am.

If the content that is delivered to you is not that what you want then it is a clear indication to focus on your community. Time to find out if your community matches to your objective.

Summify

5. Twitter Lists

Twitter lists are the basic feature of Twitter client. Even though it is a very simple way but it is quite effective.

Cool Features:

Creating your Twitter Lists allows you to follow people whom you think are important to you so that you be more productive.

Lists also empower you to follow people rather than actually adding them on Twitter. For e.g. we know most of the news sites on twitter are running on feeds so might as well put them on a list and be productive.

Creating and arranging list is easy but at times it becomes bit difficult and for that you can use the Formulists App but it’s not free.

If you don’t know how to control the Twitter stream then you would be drowned pretty soon on Twitter. So make yourself productive on Twitter by being smart and using these apps. Do you have a better app then do give a shout

My take on the Hootsuite vs. Tweetdeck debate. Basically, it really depends on what features you want. Both are great but neither is perfect:

I think hootsuite is better for real time monitoring and multi-channel management & report, it is pretty awesome in a way. I also recommend tweet alerts tool such as twitlert, which can send you the topics you are monitoring to your email, you only need to take actions whenever you receive an email, do you use such tools?

i have heard of twitlert but haven’t used it. however i use keywords in hootsuite to track them. But Cherry are the results in Twitlert real time?
