Following and Followers are your community on Twitter. Followers add you as they think that adding you would create value and following are those whom you follow. Following list are your influences and you are an influencer for your followers. Respect your following list but love your followers as they consider you special. But what about your new followers who have considered to join our community? How often do you talk to them? Most of the time we are not aware who has joined us recently and who wants to spread the word for us.
Twitter sends an mail to our assigned email id with sufficient details of people who have recently connected to your community. Have you looked in the email or just deleted? But information can become your arsenal only if you use it rationally. We decided to share how you can use the new friend info email as a source of opportunity henceforth.
You have a new follower mail now what?
You get a new email whenever a new follower adds you. It will look like as shown below, a page full of info that could be useful for us.
|New Follower Twitter Details
P.S- Please find detailed info identified as a box and the number reflect their detailed explanation below respectively.
First box (1) is friend’s bio and Twitter Info. Bio provides information that would help us make a choice when you add a new follower. For e.g. in the screen shot above, Rich is a Social Media Strategist and provides latest updates on daily news regarding social media, marketing etc. Here the bio helps me to decide whether adding Rich would be beneficial or just one more addition to my list. Secondly, with Bio I am aware about the location of the user, who are his Followers and whom does he follow. This helps me to understand the tribe that he is following.
Second box (2) is piece of information that lists the number of users whom you follow and they follow your new follower. So these are your followers who are friend of your new friend. For eg: If am following @askAronLee and he follows @RichMcKinney. Both are torch bearers of social media so naturally helps me to connect with @RichMcKinney since we are also interested about social media. It helps with the bio provided to make decision before connecting and conversing.
Third box (3) is a section that displays a list of users that are being followed by your new follower and who also follow you. For e.g. @RichMcKinney follows @socialmediazzine that follows us (@LHInsights). This tells us what are the interest areas of @RichMcKinney’s connections that follow us and give more reasons to connect.
Fourth box (4) asks you What Next? Which is an apt question, when you are aware of all the relevant social information the next chapter would be breaking the ice. Make your move and converse to engage with ‘@-mentions’ and DM’s. We would advice to leave a ‘@-mention’ with an interesting conversation rather than a boring thank you.
Tip: Avoid using automated DM’s. We also get DM’s when we add someone which is less of interaction and more of sales pitch. So avoid it unless you are getting great value from it.
Fifth box (5) you may report a link that can make your new follower as spam if you consider so. So drill a user’s twitter presence to make sure that he is human and not a bot.
How do you Engage?
You have a new follower and now after opening the email you are well aware about his presence and activities. But what next do you delete the email and wait for your followers tweets to converse upon. Why not make the move by tweeting and don’t forget to leave the communication open. This not only helps the tweet to be more meaningful and also shows that you believe in conversing first and broadcasting later.
Tip: Make it short, simple and leave with an open end question that is related to her recent tweets. Make sure you know what are you tweeting.
Find out how you are doing
To converse in this manner either you open connections, check them and tweet. It’s not an easy process as you have to click too many pages. I prefer Hootsuite as the Contact section makes life easy.
Tip: Open your Hootsuite, click on the Accounts and select your twitter profile and browse all the contacts and decide what you would love to do with each and every individual who is waiting for your friendship. So go ahead and do it rationally.
Conversing is not easy but we need to find more avenues to do so and then move on towards regular engagement.
We find the emails very important so we always give a peek before deleting it. What do you do, delete or read to build a new relation.
