Appreciation is a feeling that we can’t hide by being modest. When we put effort on a certain job, we look for appreciation from our community; it’s human nature. Social Media(SM) is a synchronous exchange of thoughts with our friends and followers. For e.g. if we like someone’s shirt in office don’t we say woah! What a shirt, where did you buy it? Similarly we make a point to express our dislikes. These conversations have now moved online to SM networks. SM networks or precisely Facebook was the one that came up with internet’s most likeable feature, the ‘LIKE’ button. If someone posts an article or a snap of her engagement, we can simply click the LIKE button. A simple click does the job and businesses are not behind to blend this likeable feature in their business model. So you find a LIKE button proliferating at each and every corner or can we say wherever there is a nano space it has already been reserved for ‘LIKE’. But do we always ‘LIKE’ something. We are humans and we are bound to unlike something. We just can’t LIKE everything and anything on this horizon. The same way, whatever businesses serve us is not always likeable, then shouldn’t they have the ‘DISLIKE’ button!
Why Not?
We have the LIKE button but what about the ‘DISLIKE’ button. Businesses are also run by humans and attracting consumers is their bread and butter. Then why don’t we find a DISLIKE button. Is this deliberate? Facebook has a smart LIKE button placed on each discussion but no DISLIKE button. The same is true for any website or fan page of businesses. All the thread and comments have a LIKE button but hardly one sees the DISLIKE button?
Why Be Scared?
Is it that businesses are scared of finding the dislikes for a certain thread/discussion? Are businesses afraid of negative beating? And if that’s the thought process then we are sorry to say, Businesses you are not at all social. Social media is not about only like, it’s also about finding what people dislike. It is a challenge that businesses should take and reciprocate. You can’t walk within the safety line and also survive Social Media.
We would like to see a DISLIKE button in all social media networks and businesses incorporating it too.
Till then we don’t think we are a part of the Social Media Revolution. Or do you think we are?
