Facebook, the world’s most popular social media networking site has been criticized in the past for not respecting privacy and for being a play ground for hackers. When Zuckerberg’s, Facebook page was hacked it raised more fingers than selling data to marketers. For a while now, Facebook has been silent in its privacy developments and recently it has launched couple of security measures that will make you agree that Facebook is serious.
‘Two Factor Authentication’ is a way by which Facebook is trying to check your identification when you try to log into via another device. It’s a user discretion feature that will require the user to activate it and Facebook will display code to be typed in. Today Facebook is your social account and it’s more critical than your bank account so it would be sensible to be secured.
Secure browsing via HTTPS is another feature that Facebook has taken seriously. We browse the internet at times from other networks that might not be secure so Facebook takes care of it. Whenever you are browsing third party applications that are non-HTTPS, Facebook will automatically convert your session to HTTPS once you’re finished. This way you are protecting your data and information when you are using non-HTTPS networks or apps.
Family Safety Center gets revamped and enhanced. The site tells dos and don’ts to parents, teachers, teens etc. Facebook’s social responsibility is commendable here and it’s quite necessary to understand the technology and how it works. Facebook is not about only adding friends and poking, it’s about what to post and what not, whom to add and whom to block and what settings should be applied. These things are important to know since privacy on internet is an oxymoron if you are not aware of security settings.
Social Reporting Tool is a tool that allows users to flag anything inappropriate with other community members. At times it’s common to see that we are not aware and our friends have posted our picture which we might consider as offending. So with this tool any of our friends of our community can report to the specified person if she finds it offending. Reporting tool helps you to reach someone not belonging to Facebook too. So if you need help when someone is bullying or harassing you on Facebook, then you can reach her via this tool. At present, the reporting tool covers photos and wall posts of Facebook users but going further Groups, Pages, Profile, Event, etc. would be covered. How it works can be found with screenshots in Facebook Notes.
Send button is a new share button within a closed group. With the ‘Share’ button the content was displayed on your wall to your community but now you control it with the ‘Send’ button. Suppose you want to share a link with a specific group or a specified number of people and not your entire Facebook friends, then ‘Send’ button is the answer. If you have a blog or website then you can display the Send button after fetching the code from the Facebook developer page. And it would be displayed like this,
|SHARING WITH SEND BUTTON|
With these few measure, one can’t criticize Facebook anymore.
We are excited about the Send button and other new features but are they exciting enough for you to try them?
