We Indians, love cricket as much as we love Bollywood, don’t we? But this year it seems that our love scale has tilted towards Bollywood. If the “Google’s Zeitgeist 2010 – How India searched” records are anything to go by, Aruna Shields the gorgeous British actress who made her debut in Bollywood with the Vivek Oberoi starrer ‘Prince’ has beaten the God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar to win the first position in the list of TOP 10 Fastest Rising People!
At second position is Sonakshi Sinha, the starkid debutante who rocked the nation with her Bollywood BO hit ‘Dabangg’ opposite Salman Khan. Trailing right behind her is, again a Bollywood actress - Zarine Khan at third position, who made her debut in ‘Veer’ starring Salman Khan again.
And which leading lady do we have at fourth position? No, it’s not Bollywood and not cricket either. Its Bollywood And Cricket. Its Lalit Modi - the quintessential entrepreneur who can easily barter his refrigerator to an Eskimo in exchange for a warm blanket. We, Indians love a little bit of masala in the mundane daal but when we are served dollops of it, we tend to go overboard. The man who conceived, architecture-ed and built the Indian Premier League (IPL) couldn’t see it slip through his greasy fingers, so he fought tooth and nail in full internet view and we Indians just lapped it all up!
At fifth position is Neha Sharma, the Tollywood actress who made her Bollywood debut in ‘Crook: Its good to be bad’ opposite Imran Hashmi. We Indians, just wanna know everything about debutante leading ladies. Or is there a twist?
Yeah! Shakira, the Columbian singer-dancer, waka-waka-ed her way into the hearts of millions and of course, us Desi’s too, to take the sixth position with her ‘Waka waka (This time for Africa) chosen as the official 2010 FIFA world cup song. She’s been around for quite sometime but I guess our love for football and FIFA may have a lot to do with her popularity rise above Bollywood!
And who can forget Katrina Kaif with her Barbie-doll-brought-to-life looks? Though she takes the seventh position, she is still ahead of the God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar who is right behind her at the eighth position. These are evergreen favorites and I believe they’ll always be on the list!
Ninth on the list is Lady Gaga, the highly influential American pop singer, who has been voted Artist of the year by Billboard for 2010.She has already won two Grammy awards and also been voted at number seven in the list of World’s Most Powerful Women by Forbes.
And who is the tenth one in the Top 10, yes it’s Salman Khan, our favorite actor Salman Bhai with his blockbuster ‘Dabangg’ out this year. From the list, we can safely derive that he is the most favorite Bollywood actor. And why shouldn’t he be, from the lovable ‘Chulbul Pandey’ on the big screen to the gameshow compere on television, he does it all with panache. And yes, he even replies to his fans on his twitter page! Another trend to be noted here is that all his God Children, right from Katrina, Zarine and Sonakshi (in order of adoption) have beaten him to leave him last!
We, Indians are pretty much a predictable lot, aren’t we?
