Facebook Overestimated Key Video Metric for Two Years: Big ad buyers and marketers are upset with Facebook Inc. after learning the tech giant vastly overestimated average viewing time for video ads on its platform for two years, according to people familiar with the situation.

Twitter’s app install ads go native inside its ad network: On Thursday, Twitter announced that mobile app advertisers can have their app install ads automatically converted to appear natively within the apps in the Twitter Audience Platform, which the company claims reaches 800 million people across “thousands” of apps.

Instagram now has more than 500,000 active advertisers: Instagram now claims to have more than 500,000 advertisers actively buying its ads each month, up from more than 200,000 in February 2016. And since officially rolling out business-specific Instagram accounts in July 2016, more than 1.5 million business have converted their accounts to business profiles, which let them buy ads within the app and get a better look at how their organic posts are performing; these business profiles are now globally available.

Facebook wants to show brands how its ads measure up against TV, others: Facebook is trying to give advertising’s sabermetricians — the Moneyballers of Madison Avenue — a better way to evaluate its ads against those from other channels, including TV, competing to make their media rosters.

YouTube to Live-Stream 2016 Presidential Debates From PBS, Telemundo, Washington Post: YouTube, as part of launching a get-out-the-vote initiative aimed at young Americans,has set deals to live-stream the U.S. presidential debates between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump from PBS, NBCUniversal’s Telemundo and the Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post.

Spotify and Tinder Want to Help Connect Users Through Their Musical Tastes: Spotify is teaming up with Tinder to integrate the music-streaming service into the single-swiping service as a way for users to showcase their music preferences in their dating profile. The music/dating match, announced today, allows users to include a “personal anthem” that shows each person’s top artists. In a blog post Spotify said the feature could be a way to “make a little music with someone new.”

Facebook’s new retail ads show in-store product availability, can be aimed at likely visitors: To help brick-and-mortar retailers push more in-store sales — and to help itself get more of their ad budgets heading into the holiday shopping season — Facebook is rolling out a new ad format that highlights available products at nearby stores and a way to aim those ads at people who are most likely to make it into the store. The ad format is the brick-and-mortar offshoot of Facebook’s original, e-commerce-oriented Dynamic Ad format mixed with its Local Awareness format.

Google launches Android Studio 2.2 with Layout Editor, Firebase plugin, and APK Analyzer:Google today launched Android Studio 2.2, the latest version of its integrated development environment (IDE), with over 20 new features across every major phase of the development process: design, develop, build, and test. Facebook acquires hardware developer Nascent Objects: Facebook has acquired Nascent Objects, the hardware development firm that aimed to make it easier for developers to go from concept to product in a matter of weeks. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Nascent Objects revealed that it will be a part of Facebook’s Building 8 program.

Google acquires natural language understanding startup Api.ai: Google today said that it’sacquired API.ai, a startup with tools for speech recognition and natural language understanding. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Google Books will now make better suggestions on what to read next: Google today is launching a new feature for Google Books which aims to offer a better challenge to Amazon’s Kindle app when it comes to helping you find new things to read. Called “Discover,” this new section in the Google Books application will help point users to new content, including both personalized suggestions as well as other recommendations based on what’s currently popular with the wider community.

2.3 million people tuned into Twitter’s NFL livestream, less than watched Yahoo’s: Twitter scored 2.3 million total viewers for its first-ever livestream of an NFL game on Thursday night, according to figures provided by the NFL on Friday that counted a view once the broadcast had played 100% in-view for at least three seconds.
