Big day for the country, India’s mission to Mars is successful. Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) most ambitious mission till date, the Mangalyaan (Mars Orbiter Mission probe) entered the red planet early morning today (IST timing) bringing all round cheer in the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was with the excited scientists at ISRO to witness the historic moment. Talking about the successful launch, he added, “The moment this mission was named MOM, I knew it would not disappoint. Moms never fail…We dared to reach out to the unknown.”
Adding further, the PM stated that India was the first country to achieve this in the first attempt. “History has been created today. We have achieved the near impossible. I congratulate all ISRO scientists and all my fellow Indians on this historic achievement.”
India now joins US, the European Space Agency and the former Soviet Union in the elite club of Martian explorers. China and Japan have failed. Besides this mission is the cheapest to reach the red planet ever.
The project was announced in August 2012 to prove that India has the technological ability to get to Mars and collect data for further missions. Since then the scientists at ISRO have not only worked day and night to make it a successful launch but at the same time ISRO has continuously updated social networks with its progress. Facebook and Twitter were not spammed by links but visual information about the progress and also making people aware of the different aspects of the Mars journey.
We have curated 15 tweets that would re-live the Mars journey so far with the help of ISRO’s Twitter account:
